Happiness. Gloriosa box - hand beaded lid, 3d printed box. Photography time! I’ll be honest, I’m not really a hot weather person, but at least this year I remembered to buy new garden furniture before it got warm and it all sold out. We’ve needed to replace our increasingly derelict old set for about 5 years and every year I time it wrong, but this year I’d set a reminder for early April (I know, how ridiculous is that). So new, very comfy seating set from @habitatuk and cushions and absolutely joyful parasol from @ikeauk (plus a boring but practical storage thingy hidden behind to pop the cushions in). Best bit is that the enormous ergo (rowing machine) used by the rest of the household is now at last hidden behind the nice things. Much better - I’ll be out there beading and reading later! #gardenliving #summervibes☀️ #suburbanliving #shadyspot I’m a bit obsessed with sequins at the moment, as my new kits will focus on how to use them alongside beads to add texture, shaping and sparkle to bead embroidery. As with beads there are lots of sizes, shapes, colours and finishes to choose from, and as with beads each of those choices matters. Here you can see my finished test piece, and then the WIP - I picked up the wrong pot of large flat sequins, a rainbow on black rather than a scarabeous on black, and it killed it dead. It’s the difference between a mid green highlight and a dark green lowlight, a tiny thing but it really puzzled me until I realised what I’d done.#beadwork #beading #beads #beadembroidery #sequins Kits involve a lot more beads than you’d expect - it takes some refining from an orginal colour palette to a first run, and then something which is manageable as a kit, with enough different beads but not so many it gets crazy expensive in Yemen’s of either beads, labour or packaging. So this one is there, let’s see what we can do with the other sizes and colours……… Prototyping continues with lots of beading, which is the best bit. This is a test board with the estimated weights/counts of beads - I can tell by looking that as usual I have too few of some and way too many of others, which frankly is why I always do multiple real checks - and I love beading samples of this so it’s not a great sacrifice! #beading #beads #beadmat #beadprep #miyukibeads Throwback Thursday to look at a post from last year about my obsession for beading 3d geometric figures - Orbit is a Bucky Ball, Quintessence teaches you to build dodecahedra but can be adapted to many other forms, Oscar's Bauble is a dodecahedron, and Great Balls of Spikes is actually a cube (although it doesn't look like one). Whether you're working with larger beads as the vertices or corners, or building the whole shape from peyoted seed beads, using these forms is a great way to transform your beadwork. Tutorials available in my Etsy and PayHip shops (link in comments/bio). I'm pondering a new Orbit today (why wouldn't I when I already have three other projects on the go?) so I may have to steal some more Heaxagon crystals from the stock trolley. Orbit is an intermediate beadweaving tutorial using a choice of crystals with Miyuki delicas and seeds to make a self supporting ball. The tutorial includes crystal options for 16mm or 20mm rivolis, or 14mm or those lovely 18mm hexagons I'm currently eyeing up.. ......if I steal them all though don't forget the other size options for the design, which are all lovely too and may even already be in your stash. When you ask 'why don't you release more kits/tutorials Sarah?' this is why.
